During the afternoon of September 30, 2021, Ms. Karen Vergara, biotechnologist and SATREPS MACH laboratory assistant at the Universidad de Los Lagos (U. Lagos, Osorno), visited the CREAN center of the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP, Puerto Montt).
The purpose of the visit was to provide training to Ms. Vergara, in charge of Mr. Marco Pinto, on the cultivation and maintenance of Alexandrium catenella, one of the main species of microalgae that causes Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB). The maintenance of HAB-causing microalgae cultures at the U. Lagos, with standardized protocols between both institutions, will allow conducting experiments to advance the studies of the MACH project.
The Research activities related to MACH project are returning to normal, to advance with the project objectives.
